Dying Matters – yes it does… Awareness Week 2024

Once again, Hospice UK is promoting Dying Matters Awareness Week, this year between 6 and 12 May 2024. All over the country, events are popping up to raise awareness about the importance of conversations around what’s important to people at the end of life, whether for yourself or for someone close to you. You can find events close to your area by visiting the map here. As they say so succinctly, “Hospice UK’s Dying Matters campaign is working with you to create an open culture in which we’re comfortable talking about death, dying and grief.”

In the spirit of encouraging local communities to engage in these conversations, I will be taking my large stash of well-thumbed books on many subjects around death and dying to the Wolvercote Sunday Market on Sunday 12 May. You’re welcome to browse through my books (a small selection is shown above!) or to pick up leaflets and resource lists to further your exploration at home if you wish. I’ll also be there to lend a listening ear if you’d like to share a story or perhaps a worry you may have. I’m not in the habit of handing out advice per se, though I may well be able to signpost you somewhere helpful, suggest resources or simply listen to you.

The market takes place at The White Hart, Godstow Road, Wolvercote, OX2 8PQ and I’ll be there on Sunday 12 May between 10am and 12 noon. Hope to see you there 🙂
